Looking back on the most memorable place I visited in Japan last year 🤩
It has to be Daikeien in Chiba!!! 🔥❤️🫶🏻
Daikeien is a super niche spot we actually stumbled on by accident
On the way back we realized we had nowhere to go～
Happened to find it online, so we headed straight there 🚶♀️
I didn't expect much at first, figured it'd be like a video arcade
But the moment we arrived, everyone was stunned.... loved it 💕
A little intro to Daikeien (from Google) 🫣
Opened in 1951, with more than 70 years of history
Hailed as the best, coolest amusement park in Chiba, and hugely popular on social media
No entry fee! No entry fee! No entry fee! 🔥
You pay for whichever attractions you want to use 🤔
So lots of Japanese college students drive here and spend the whole day 🚗
The free entry alone already makes it amazing!!!
From the moment you get out of the car, it's like entering another world⁉️
Retro Americana everywhere 🇺🇸 (it also gives off major Netflix Stranger Things vibes!
The park is decked out with tons of neon bulbs and over-the-top American cartoon toys 🪀, super colorful and kind of psychedelic (?
with Japanese pop from the '80s/'90s playing 🎵
There are six main areas:
1. Slick cart
2. Billiards and Darts
3. Game
4. Table Tennis & Kids Corner
5. Batting ＆Karaoke
6. Ground
Walking around the park, you keep feeling like you're on a movie set 🥳 It's a super photogenic spot, every shot comes out great!
My friends and I took so many photos that look nothing like Japan xd
The only small regret: we had to rush back to Tokyo to return the rental car, so we didn't spend much time here 🥺
Later I asked my Japanese friends, and they love going here!
It's their own hidden gem; they drive over at night with friends 🚗
My Japanese friends were really surprised I even knew about it xd
