【My high-score IELTS experience】

Test date: first attempt 2024/10/10

【Prep experience & methods by section】

【Listening】

For listening, Genie taught me how to catch keywords and transition words efficiently, which made my approach to questions more strategic. Genie stressed two techniques, “predicting the answer” and “synonym substitution,” which are especially useful for fill-in-the-blank questions. Genie's own handouts are also more targeted than the books on the market, with detailed breakdowns of question types, lists of high-frequency vocabulary and listening practice, which helped me grasp the key points of the test quickly. I also used the question bank Genie provided and listened to real past questions every day to get used to different accents and speeds. This improved my listening comprehension and let me stay calm in the actual exam.

【Reading】

Reading was my biggest challenge, but the “fast skimming” and “locating key sentences” methods Pai taught me helped me find a rhythm for answering questions. Pai's handouts are very practical: they cover all kinds of passage topics and include detailed explanations, which helped me gradually master long reading passages. In class the teacher put special emphasis on time allocation and advised me to do the easy question types first before tackling the hard ones, which raised my accuracy a lot. After class I used the four mock tests Wordgod (字神) provided for practice, which made me more familiar with the question types and improved my reading speed and comprehension.

【Writing】

Writing was the section I gained the most from. The high-scoring sentence patterns and paragraph structures Pai taught me helped me enormously. From how to open and address the prompt to how to keep paragraphs coherent, the teacher gave detailed guidance; my data analysis and report language for chart tasks in particular became clear and logical. Pai's own collection of model essays helped me a lot: the examples use natural language and are full of high-scoring sentence patterns you can reuse. I also used the after-class essay correction service and got detailed comments and suggested revisions every time, which steadily improved my writing.

【Speaking】

While preparing for speaking, Mark helped me build an answer structure, such as “opening statement, supporting reasons, personal example,” so I no longer feared going blank. The high-scoring sample answers and vocabulary bank for common topics that Mark provided were very helpful, especially for replacing stiff written language with more natural spoken expressions. The mock test in the last class and Mark's one-on-one feedback also showed me clearly where I fell short so I could fix it in time. I went from nervous and halting at first to answering fluently and confidently. This preparation improved my test-taking skills and gave me more confidence expressing myself in English.

【Study plan】

I prepared for IELTS while in the second year of my master's at the NTU Graduate Institute of Electronics Engineering, which was a big challenge with my heavy coursework. Fortunately, the prep school Wordgod (字神帝國) gave me crucial support and helped me plan my study effectively in limited time. Through systematic course design, flexible online resources and mock tests, I could target my weaknesses and gradually improve all four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The teachers' real-time feedback and emotional support also helped me keep my balance and motivation between my studies and the language test. Wordgod's help let me manage both my research and IELTS prep, and move confidently toward my academic and international goals.

【Test center report】

I took the paper-based IELTS at Wordgod's Xuchang branch, and the overall experience was very good. The test center was well equipped, the process ran smoothly, and the invigilators were professional and friendly, so I could take the test with peace of mind. I recommend it to anyone preparing for IELTS!

【Words of encouragement for other test takers】

While preparing for IELTS, you're bound to hit plateaus and setbacks, but every bit of effort quietly builds up your ability. Keep going and trust that you're one step closer to your goal. Don't be afraid of setbacks; take it slowly, keep going, and the result will be better than you imagine!
