Do these three things and boost your interviewer's impression of you by 150%

Here are a few of my tips for online interviews:

  1. Most online interviews ask you to turn your camera on. My own habit is not to use the laptop's built-in camera; instead I invest in a small external camera and position it directly in front of me (laptop cameras usually sit a bit low, so I'd be looking down at the interviewer a little). I try to keep about 1/3 of empty space above my head, which is a comfortable height for the other person too (assuming the interviewer has your video open full screen)

  2. Front lighting: I've found a ring light really, really useful. With enough light on my face, I look super healthy and glowing!

  3. Get into the meeting room early and wait. Don't make the interviewer wait for you, since interviewers usually have pretty limited time, so get as familiar as you can with your video-call software!

These three points are small details people might overlook when preparing for an interview! But as the old saying goes, the details make or break you!

Good luck!
