Waseda University | A Must-Visit Study Spot for Murakami Fans: A Themed Library with Jazz and the Orange Cat Café📚🐱☕️

On the Waseda campus stands the Haruki Murakami Library, a building with a really special design📚

I still remember arriving at Waseda for new-student orientation last year📖

It was only after asking my Japanese friends that I learned this was the famous Haruki Murakami Library!

Stepping inside feels like entering a completely different time and space~

It's like walking into Haruki Murakami's inner world! As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by an entire wall of books📖

The library perfectly showcases the author's proudest books, works and manuscripts

The above-ground floor is an exhibition space playing the jazz the author loves🎵

Then head down to the basement's “Orange Cat Café”☕️

It sells all kinds of coffee, light meals and desserts, and it's my secret favorite café on campus🔥

There's also a room full of jazz albums. So cool!!!

The basement hosts events like student club piano performances from time to time

Waseda students are really lucky to have this library!❤️

The above-ground floor holds talk-type events such as panels and seminars

A professor once invited me to give a presentation on Taiwanese at a seminar (one of the most memorable experiences of my life xd)🤣

My Japanese language-exchange buddies often invite me here for coffee and a chat too💬

The desserts and coffee at the “Orange Cat Café” are all delicious! I highly recommend checking it out👀

For me, this library holds so many memories of studying abroad🇯🇵💓

Whether I'm presenting at a seminar, just want to read, or am writing a paper between classes

I get so much inspiration here, and it's a great place to relax too~

If you're traveling to Japan, you're welcome to plan a day trip to Waseda xd

Murakami fans especially have to make the pilgrimage😏🔥
