Are study-abroad couples doomed to break up? 🥹
As the title says. I'm going on exchange to NYU this September
and my boyfriend is going to UCLA for grad school
We're a year apart in age, and this July we'll have been together for three years
Before leaving, every platform kept pushing me posts about long-distance couples breaking up
and I've read a ton of gossip about study-abroad couples
I'm really worried something will happen to our relationship…
So far these are the only things I can think of that might help keep us close:
Video/voice call for an hour every day to share our lives or keep each other company
Sometimes order the same food (?
Tell each other before going out with friends + try to get to know each other's friends
Plan short trips to each other's cities over long holidays
Study seriously together, remotely
Honestly, for the past six months, ever since we found out we'd be living apart, our relationship has been really unstable
It feels like he's really looking forward to his new life and new circle of friends
I'm the only one worrying about whether we can make it… and it's left me feeling really insecure about our relationship 🥹
Anyone who's been in a long-distance relationship, please share your experience!
