UK Fall 2025 Master's Timeline: All You Need in One Post!

📍 August 2024

A lot of people are wondering right now: it feels like there are so many documents to prepare, and I think it's too late. But you can absolutely still make it in time to apply for a UK master's starting next fall. Just start now and catch up on what you've missed. Let's go through the timeline!

📍 August - September

Start looking at schools and programs. Once you've settled on about 6 schools, you can start writing your application documents, such as your statement of purpose (SOP), CV and recommendation letters (RLs). If you want to apply as soon as applications open, aim to finish your documents by early October.

📍 September - October

Schools open their application systems one after another; some programs or schools that open later won't until after November. Once you've submitted, go all out on IELTS!

📍 December 2024 - January 2025

Admission decisions usually arrive 6-8 weeks after you submit, sometimes 12+ weeks. If you submit before October, there's a good chance you'll hear back before Christmas! Otherwise it'll be January-February of the following year.

📍 February - June

From February on, pre-sessional English registration deadlines vary depending on your IELTS score, so take IELTS at least once as early as possible before then; only then can you tell whether you need to sign up. You can also start looking into on- and off-campus housing. Before Lunar New Year there are still plenty of off-campus room types to choose from, and prices are more reasonable.

In June, send in your degree certificate and transcript as soon as possible.

📍 March - June

Quite a lot of on-campus housing opens in March, so it's best to lock in your housing early.

If you want to book flights before you get your visa, you need to be able to accept the risk of changing or canceling the ticket. Decide for yourself whether to arrive 3 days before term starts or 2-4 weeks early.

📍 July - August

Once you've exchanged for an unconditional offer, prepare your visa documents, submit your visa application and book your biometrics appointment. Also attend an in-person or online pre-departure briefing.

📍 August - September

Make a packing list, get everything packed, and you're ready to head abroad happy!
