②⓪②⑥ 🇦🇺 Australian Master's, February (Autumn) Intake: Month-by-Month Timeline
✨ ②⓪②⑥ 🇦🇺 Australian Master's, February (Autumn) Intake: Month-by-Month Timeline
📍 February intake in Australia
Australia has two intakes a year, in February and July (this post uses the February 2026 intake as the example). Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, and February is its main intake (autumn); the vast majority of programs can be started that month.
Most graduating students in Taiwan choose the February intake of the following year. If your IELTS meets the school's requirement by April of your graduation year, you'll have more time and can get your student visa sorted first, so you may be able to start that July!

📍 January - March: choose schools/programs + prepare documents + submit applications
In January, discuss schools and programs with your consultant. The application documents are relatively simple, so if all goes well you can submit by the end of February, and you'll hear your admission results about 8~12 weeks after submitting.
You could also go to the study-abroad fair in March and talk with Australian university representatives to learn more about the campus, courses, clubs, career services and so on, which will help you choose once offers arrive. And of course, don't forget to start practicing + getting familiar with the IELTS question types, and book your first test date.
📍 April: prepare for IELTS
Once your applications are in, you can focus on IELTS prep, getting familiar with the question types and so on, and decide whether to take the paper or the computer test. Many Australian universities now accept a single-skill retake ( One Skill Retake) , but only for the computer test!

📍 May - July: admission results + take IELTS + prepare visa documents
Ideally take IELTS once in May, so you know whether you meet the English requirement of the universities you applied to, and think about whether you might need to enroll in an English pathway course (EAP). Watch the EAP application deadline. If you need to take EAP, talk directly with your consultant (the timeline has to be tailored).
In June - July, once your Australian university results arrive, make your final choice, then you can pay the deposit + buy student insurance and start preparing your visa documents.
📍 August - October: arrange housing
On- and off-campus housing open for applications one after another. Look into room types, prices, locations, transport... and once you've weighed it all up, book early. Prices at this point are the cheapest, and there's more choice
📍 November - December: apply for your visa + buy flights
If your IELTS already qualifies you for direct entry, it's best to start your visa application in November. After you fill in the online system + do the medical exam, allow at least 4 weeks for the result. When the visa comes through in December, book your flight according to the entry date on your insurance, and off to Australia you go!

📍 January - February: pack + start classes
Start packing and check pre-departure guides online. It helps to make a checklist so you can tick things off. Once your documents and luggage are ready, you can head off abroad! Oh, and there's an Orientation Week 1 week before classes start. Try to go if you can: it'll help you settle into campus life and make new friends faster!
