The cost of studying abroad has always been a heavy burden, so today I want to share Ken's article on applying for a study-abroad loan! It gives everyone one more option when planning their funding!

| Eligibility

1. You have an unconditional offer

2. Your household registration has been in Taipei City for one year

3. During repayment, your household registration can't move out of Taipei City (if it does, interest is charged)

4. You have graduated from a senior high (or vocational) school and a college or university, or have proof of equivalent qualifications

5. Your net consolidated income for the most recent year is below the filing threshold, or your consolidated income tax rate is below 30%

6. You must study full-time for a master's or doctoral degree or a professional certification (schools in China, Hong Kong and Macau are not eligible)

| Documents

1. Photocopy of your passport (a photocopy!)

2. High school and university diplomas

3. National ID card, personal seal, household registration transcript (issued within three months before applying)

4. Income tax assessment notice (from the National Taxation Bureau)

5. Admission letter from your school (must show the student's name, department, degree and period of study)

| Application process

First, call Fubon and tell them you want to apply for this loan. Fubon will give you a loan officer's contact details. Contact the officer to book an appointment; you can ask them any questions you have

Once the appointment is set, bring the documents above. Note that your guarantor has to come too, with their ID card and seal, and you need to provide proof of the guarantor's financial means: at least 350,000 with no debt (certificates of deposit, property, insurance policies, listed stocks… all work). It takes about 40 minutes

If everything is fine, you'll be notified to sign the guarantee in person. The guarantor also has to go, with their ID card and seal, and you need to open a Fubon bank account. I waited a week from applying to signing (Fubon says a month at most). About a week after signing, the money is transferred to your account
