Based in NYC: looking for good Taiwanese food recommendations
I've been studying in New York for over five years. During the pandemic flights felt too expensive, so I didn't go back to Taiwan, and somehow I ended up staying five years… without ever going back. For everyone else in New York (or on the East Coast), any recommendations for good Taiwanese food?
I'll start with a few places from my list
📍Uncle Lou 快樂人
Location: Chinatown, New York, 73 Mulberry St, New York, NY 10013
Menu: stir-fried greens, preserved radish omelet, garlic chicken, braised pork belly with preserved mustard greens
Thoughts: Honestly it tastes more… Hong Kong style. I went because I'd seen people say it's a bit like a Taiwanese stir-fry joint, but I didn't think it felt much like one! Still, it eased my homesickness, and I'm already full of gratitude🫶🏻
📍Legend Chicken 霸王別姬
Location: 135-15 40th Rd, Queens, NY 11354
Menu: fried chicken cutlet, popcorn chicken, sweet potato fries
Thoughts: So good
Personally I think it's way better than 886's honey popcorn chicken, sob (just my taste, don't flame me). This is the fried chicken I've been missing!!
Recently I had 50 Lan for the first time in ages, damn, I almost cried (but they don't have the classic pearl, boba and coconut jelly combo… hope they fix that soon😤) Any other good, authentic Taiwanese food? Please, everyone, share! I really miss the Taiwanese breakfast from the place at the end of my lane…
