Job Hunting in Germany: UI/UX Designer Interview Questions

🔸The job market
Overall, the economy in 2023 didn't do as well as expected. In the first half of the year, many big US tech companies made large-scale layoffs. In Germany, the law doesn't allow companies to lay off employees, but what happened instead was hiring freezes and very few openings, which made competition extremely fierce, especially for Junior positions.

🔸CV and motivation letter
In Germany, your CV must include a professional-looking headshot so people get a good first impression of you. In the motivation letter, the first paragraph has to make clear why you're applying for this position and which of your qualifications match the job description. HR needs to remember you before you get a chance at the next stage.

🔸The interview process
There are usually 2-3 rounds. The first is a basic interview with HR. The second is usually with your future manager and colleagues, where they ask some professional UI/UX questions to judge whether your skills fit the role. At smaller companies, the process is usually simpler.

🔸Test tasks
Some companies give you a test task before the interview and ask you to finish it and send it back within a set time. Others have you complete a timed task on the spot during the interview. In my case, I got the task in advance, and during the interview I walked them through my whole process and how I made my design decisions.
